Exceptional portrait of the Infanta Isabel Fernandina de Borbón y Borbón by the Irish-born painter and playwright William Gorman Wills. Unlike the official portraits of the monarchy, in which the character appears characterized with the attributes of royalty, the author wanted to focus on the tenderness that emerges from the gaze of the animal towards the infanta and her affectionate attitude. The figures emerge from a dark background, against which the white satin dress of the princess and the clarity of her complexion and eyes stand out. She is shown in a slightly dynamic pose, with her body in profile, but looking directly at the viewer. Also noteworthy is the excellent technique of the qualities when depicting the dog's fur. It was in the portrait genre that William Gorman Wills expressed his best skills.

In the lower zone, the frame presents an identifying plate with the author, the date, and the title of the work. The frame of the work itself also deserves a special mention. Made of wood carved and gilded with fine gold and burnished with agate stone, it presents several paths with an extraordinary depth and different ornamental motifs.

Another portrait of the Infanta, painted by Carlos Luis de Ribera in 1860, is kept in the Prado Museum.

Isabel Fernandina de Borbón y Borbón was born in Madrid in 1821 and died in Paris in 1897.
