The habit of making anthropomorphic vases, vessels with human faces, can be traced from Mesopotamia, through Anatolia and the Balkans, to the Carpathian Basin, and even farther west in the Neolithic Age. Research has been dealing with the importance of face dishes for a long time, as it is obvious that their importance goes beyond their simple role of use. According to the most general idea, vessels with the representation of a human face could have had a function of storage and/or protection against spoilage.
