Tree 01 Sculpture by Eglė Šimkus Unique Piece. Dimensions: D 18 x H 31 cm. Materials: Clay. My name is Eglė Šimkus, and I was born in Lithuania in 1990 to a Russian mother and a Lithuanian father. I lived in Lithuania until 1999 when I arrived in France. My artistic work explores the deep connection between the intimate and the surrounding environment. I blend different forms of artistic expression, including writing, painting, and sculpture, to create a dialogue between the body and its context. In my work, I seek to deconstruct the traditional form to convey different perspectives of reality. Surrealism exerts a major influence, where painting becomes a fusion of ideas and elements in an imaginary world. The human body plays a central role in my creation, serving as the foundation and essence of my works. My sculptures seem to emerge from a buried and unreal world, creating fantastical forms that combine surrealism with elements of contemporary life. My work with clay is a process of gestation, where organic forms are born from introspection. I sculpt clay as if it were stone, thus creating a direct link between the unconscious and the body. My creations invite viewers to explore fragments of enigmatic stories, populated by chimeras.
