Vintage Design

Fine transitional/Louis XVI wall mirror of carved gilded wood, made in France/Provence, ca. 1770: high-stretched old mirror framed by wide molding with incorporated further narrow mirror plates. The four corners of the mirror frame are decorated with spandrels ornaments in the form of stylized acanthus leaves, the edges of the frame with carved floral cartouches. The top finish is an intricately designed finial in the form of a large moving bow, a so-called fontange bow, holding a small bouquet of flowers and framing a small oval mirror accompanied by vines. Size mirror glass: 40 cm x 32 cm Condition: good, signs of age and use, min. paint chipping, upper right corner with min. missing part.
