When in the midst of trauma, we try to find ways to keep control of ourselves, even if what we cling to is fantasy. The witch or sorceress having control over nature itself, gives her ultimate dominion over her own body. Here, faced with herself in an electric sky, the witch conducts the physical elements of her own image in a magnificent and captivating song. Singleton starts a painting by working abstractly, painting in color and marks. She builds up layers and develops a setting and figures and finally a narrative. The amount of time taken to complete a piece varies considerably depending on the artwork. Singleton uses iridescent and florescent pigments that shimmer and glow differently with changing light. There is a nice texture to the physical pieces that is difficult to see photographed. This piece looks fantastic floated in 50cm x 40 cm frame.
