Marble and Bronze Clock by Théodore Gechter, 19th Century

About This Piece

Vintage Design

Very elegant white marble clock topped with its patinated bronze signed Théodore Gechter* (1795 – 1844) displaying a horse in state and its groom holding its hind leg.
The clock, which has been completely overhauled and works perfectly, displays Roman numerals in enamel on earthenware against a background of gilded bronze decoration. The mechanism has a wire suspension and is numbered 106 with its winding key.
Its white marble cut and molded on its beveled angles is bordered by a large frieze in gilded bronze decorated with leaves and flowers.

* Theodore Gechter:
French sculptor, born in Paris in 1795 and died in the same city on December 11, 1844. We owe him in particular a Bas-relief of the Battle of Austerlitz on the west pillar of the Arc de Triomphe.
