Low Five-Drawer Table in Walnut

Vintage Design

With the original dark finish still mainly intact, this wonderful long, low table would have been originally designed for use in a Shanxi home to be placed on the 'kang' - a raised platform heated from below during the colder months.

Beautifully made from walnut, it has five shallow storage drawers, each with a simple central moulding and ring handle. The table is in a plain box-like style referred to as 'zhuo' in Chinese and the carved relief on each of the four feet of a square with a scrolling pattern, add a wonderful decorative element.

Today this makes an attractive and practical coffee table to place in front of, or next to a sofa.
