Large Teak Panel with Carved Scene of Thai Village and Forest. This was one of my first auction purchases many moons ago.And one I have thoroughly enjoyed being on the wall of my study.Stared at it for hours, marvelling at the detail and the skill of the craftsman.But I'm a dealer and everything has to go eventually. A truly reluctant sale!So what we have here is a huge and hefty single piece of teak which has been carved very skillfully into a 3D relief piece of art.After much deliberation, I've opted for a Thai village scene. But it could equally be Indonesian or nearby countries where teak is grown.The craftsman wass truly skilled and although we will never know who he was, this piece clearly took some time to do.His understanding of wood and art is clear.Look at the way the deeper recesses of the forest have been more roughly carved to give you that feeling of depth. As opposed to the foreground where the carving is much more detailed.A lot of thought has gone into this and it shows!Looking at the back, the wooden slab has a dark grain running down it which must be some sort of weakness. As on the carved side, this is where any cracks appear.But this is a natural medium so the carver has accepted this and left it as is.Highly unusual and definitely a unique piece to have in your home, office or retail space.Get it now before it's gone! Dimensions: 60cm across. 87cm high. Max 5.5cm deep. Weight: 14 kg Condition: Crack in right hand tree which is probably due to shrinkage caused by heat.
