Vintage Design

Charming bronze with brown patina, after Louis-Simon BOIZOT (1743 - 1809), French neo-classical sculptor, who was at the head of the workshops of the Sèvres factory. The work, signed on the bronze terrace, represents Cupid, God of Love in Roman mythology. The deity is represented as a young man with youthful features and curly hair, a pair of wings reminiscent of the figure of the angel on his back. He carries his quiver of arrows and his bow, instruments that are supposed to illustrate the points of desire that he plants in the hearts of men.
This print rests on a sea-green marble base, embellished with a gadrooned bronze collar and a cartouche bearing the words "HOUDEBINE BRONZIER, Paris", a foundry active from 1845 to 1910.
