Consalvo Carelli (Arenella 1818–1900 Naples) was an Italian landscape painter who joined the School of Posillipo like his father Raffaele. He is also known as Gonsalvo Carelli. The present work represents fishermen in Pozzuoli, there Carrelli met Alexandre Dumas, who commissioned the illustration for his book “from Naples to Rome”. Carelli’s skills were higly appreciated also in the Italian court; the painter become in fact the personal teacher of Margherita di Savoia. The Fine quality of his works arouse the interest of the abroad aristocracy, particularly in Russia. Some of his landscape of Naples are still now on display in the Hermitage Museum.
