Copperplate engraving on handmade paper, the so-called butten paper, hand-colored with watercolor.

The graphic presents 19th-century women's hairstyles and Empire style outfits. The performances are characterized by great detail and precision of execution. The female figures are framed, accompanied by the signature of Costume Parisien. No. 29 and dated 1805

In the nineteenth century, the source of knowledge about the then fashion were fashion magazines illustrated with original graphics presenting the wardrobe, as well as fashion accessories. The images of women were the most popular because fashion was their domain.

In the nineteenth century, European women followed the patterns coming mainly from France, for example with fashion graphics such as those from the Costume Parisien series. The author of the graphics is Horace Vernet (1789-1863), an outstanding French painter and graphic artist. In his painting work, Vernet dealt mainly with battle themes, and his fashion prints are also very famous.

Today, the graphics have gained a decorative, decorative character, but they are still an important iconographic source that allows you to learn about the old fashion, accessories and customs.
