About This Piece

Graphics according to a drawing by Horace Vernet, made in the technique of colored copperplate, presents a women's outfit characteristic of the Biedermeier style.

A figure made on handmade paper, the so-called butten paper, hand-colored with watercolor. Pastel colors.

In the nineteenth century, the source of knowledge about the then fashion were fashion magazines illustrated with original graphics presenting clothes and accessories. The model of French clothing was associated with the Napoleonic era and later with the taste of the bourgeoisie, which defined the assumptions of the Biedermeier style.

Today, the graphics have gained a decorative, decorative character, but they are still an important iconographic source that allows you to learn about the old fashion, accessories and customs.
